Vintage Pens: Sheaffer 3-25 Orange
Vintage Pens: 1866 Sheaffer 3-25 Orange
We get Parker "Big Reds" by the gross, but this is our first orange Sheaffer from the 1920s! A Sheaffer 3-25, the model number designates that it was a $3 pen with a 25-year warrantee. It is a really handsome slender, junior-size vintage pen. We have fully restored it with a new ink sac. The imprint is legible but faded in parts. The black threads were a factory repair in the 1920s or '30s. The orange-colored material proved to be a little fragile, and they'd replace broken orange thread pieces with spliced in black ones. There are two teeny hairline cracks that are very short sprouting from the place where the orange and black meet. There are a couple of hairline cracks in the lip of the cap, too, but all the cracks seem stable, as long as you don't post the cap. There is heavy brassing in the back of the cap band and a little on the ball of the pocket clip. The original inkfeed and 14k gold nib write a firm fine line. 10.8cm capped.
