The rules regulating American military uniforms in the 1940s stated that you couldn't have anything showing above your shirt's breast pocket. Wanting to sell as many pens to the men and women of the armed forces as they could, Sheaffer created the military clip, which kept the top of the pen cap hidden under the rim of the breast pocket. Our Sheaffer Balance 500 features one of these classic clips. We restored this vintage pen with a new ink sac. Click the headline for close-ups. You can see the clip is on the loose side and that the cap and barrel have plenty of wear from use...it did survive military service during WWII, most likely. Yet, it has great clarity in its ink-view window. You will write an extra-fine line with a little feedback using its 14k gold nib. The "500" meant that it was a $5 pen brand new. 13.1cm capped.
