Sheaffer

William A. Sheaffer founded the Sheaffer Pen Company in 1912. His invention of the lever-filling fountain pen that year revolutionized how fountain pens were filled, and by the 1920s Sheaffer became one of the world's most dominant pen companies. Always innovating filling systems, Sheaffer also created a Vacuum-Fil pen, pneumatic TouchDown filler and pneumatic Snorkel filler that made for the first truly mess-free bottled-ink filling system. Started in Fort Madison, Iowa, the Sheaffer Pen Company today is owned by India's William Penn Company.

Pre-Owned Pens: 5343: Sheaffer: Targa
Sheaffer's first real hit in the post-Golden Age of pens came in the 1970s with the Sheaffer Targa. Its design screams 1970s and '80s. Bold, modern, a cylindrical body squared off on the top and bottom. Our pen has a matte-black finish with gold plated trim. An excellent rollerball pen, its refill is a real tanker. There is an old refill in it now, but we have just ordered some new ones, which we will include with it, as soon as they arrive. Minimal, if any, wear. 13.7cm capped.

Price: $75.00
Pencil: 5184: Sheaffer: CB
Looking for a great vintage pencil that looks nice but won't make you feel guilty about ruining a museum piece? Check out our Sheaffer CB that is unstickered. Without any dents or deep scratches, it still shows some surface wear from use. Happily, this vintage pencil still works perfectly with a twist of the tail knob. It comes with a 1.1mm lead that extends and retracts. Under the tail knob is a hardened eraser and spare leads. Perfect for crosswords, sudoku, math and great everyday writing. 13cm.
Pencil: 5183 Sheaffer CB
Filling Mechanism: Pencil
Era: 1920-1929
Price: $99.99
Pencil: 5183: Sheaffer: CB
Ever wonder what it would be like to walk into an old stationary shop or jewelry store where they sold pens and pencils in the 1920s? Our Sheaffer CB might give you a small taste, as it is still stickered and from a jewelry store that closed in the 1920s! No doubt they intended to sell it and then engrave it. This gold-filled pencil still works and looks brand new, aside from a hint of shop wear, which is pretty amazing for a 100-year-old pencil. Twist the top crown to advance and retract a 1.1mm lead. Pull out the crown to reveal a hardened, unused, original eraser with spare leads beneath it. 12.9cm.
Pencil: 5181 Sheaffer Titan
Filling Mechanism: Pencil
Era: 1920-1929
Price: $99.99
Pencil: 5181: Sheaffer: Titan
Oversized Sheaffer Titan pencils seem common on this site, but they are rather uncommon in the wild. Here is a beautiful jade model that is in great working order. It has some scratches on the nose cone, light wear on the barrel and minimal wear on the topper. Maybe a touch of brassing on the pocket clip. The topper does not seem to want to separate from its inner mechanism, which is okay, given there doesn't sound as if there are any spare leads within. Twist the topper to advance and retract the 1.1mm lead that is already loaded into the pencil. 13.4cm.
Pencil: 5180 Sheaffer Titan
Filling Mechanism: Pencil
Era: 1920-1929
Price: $99.99
Pencil: 5180: Sheaffer: Titan
The granddaddy of mechanical pencils in the 1920s was the Sheaffer Titan. Ideally matching the Oversized pens of its time, this vintage pencil is in excellent condition. Its 1.1mm lead propelling mechanism works very smoothly, advancing and retracting the lead. Under the gold-plated flat-top topper is a working replacement eraser and spare leads. Cosmetically, this pencils is looking great. There's one deep scratch hard to find on the barrel, a little brassing on the pocket clip and some small dimples on the topper. Otherwise, there's only some light wear. 13.3cm.
Pencil: 5172 Sheaffer Balance
Filling Mechanism: Pencil
Era: 1930-1939
Price: $49.99
Pencil: 5172: Sheaffer: Balance
Here's one you don't see every day. This is an oversized Sheaffer Balance pencil with a separation point about a full centimeter below the cap band. The pencil is in great working order, loaded with a smaller-than-customary-for-this-era .9mm lead. It has a handsome black-and-pearl design. Unfortunately, there is general wear from use, brassing on the pocket clip and a small portion on the barrel that looks as if it was sanded down. Nothing remains of the original eraser. Nevertheless, it remains a great daily writer for everyday math, crosswords, sudoku and more. 14.6cm.
Pencil: 5168 Sheaffer Lifetime Autograph
Filling Mechanism: Pencil
Era: 1930-1939
Price: $99.99
Pencil: 5168: Sheaffer: Lifetime Autograph
Marine green is a desirable and less common design on the 1930s Sheaffer Balance line. Even rarer are the Sheaffer Autograph models! Sheaffer Autograph pencils have a solid 14k gold pocket clip and an extra-wide solid 14k gold band around the cap. Typically, those wide bands were engraved. This vintage pencil has no such engraving! Better, yet, it is in great working order. Twist the tail cap to advance or retract the 1.1mm lead. Pull of the tail cap to access the remains of an eraser and spare leads beneath it. Unfortunately, this pencil isn't perfect. To the right of the cap band are some dots deeply cut into the celluloid, that also has a 1/2-inch of flat spot, possibly where someone tried to polish the dots out. The remainder of the pencil has some blemishes, especially near the top of the tail cap with a bite mark and a few lines/scratches imprinted. Believe it or not, you really don't see it well unless you go looking for it, but, nevertheless, it is there. 13.2cm.
Vintage Pens: 5077 Sheaffer 41 Autograph
Filling Mechanism: Lever Filler
Era: 1920-1929   Fountain Pen Nib Size: F
Price: $649.99
Vintage Pens: 5077: Sheaffer: 41 Autograph
You can't get much closer to perfection on the hard rubber cap and barrel on a rare Sheaffer 41 Autograph model pen than this. Its chasing and imprint are as crisp as the day it was made. Zero chocolate hazing. Its 41 imprint in the flat tail has orange paint or chalk in it, which apparently isn't original. Not a trace of brassing on its extra-wide gold-plated cap band, clip and lever. The ONLY flaw is the teeniest, tiniest little dimple a 25% turn to the left of the clip in the center of the cap band. That's it, and you'll miss it if you don't specifically look for it. Our vintage pen is fully restored with a new ink sac. It has a replacement 14k gold Lifetime nib without the serial number AND an original spear-point inkfeed. You will write a fine line with a little feedback, but we don't think most people will be making such a beautiful specimen a frequent writer. It is an impressive vintage pen, especially in this condition. Click the headline for close-ups. 13.5cm capped.
