Sheaffer

William A. Sheaffer founded the Sheaffer Pen Company in 1912. His invention of the lever-filling fountain pen that year revolutionized how fountain pens were filled, and by the 1920s Sheaffer became one of the world's most dominant pen companies. Always innovating filling systems, Sheaffer also created a Vacuum-Fil pen, pneumatic TouchDown filler and pneumatic Snorkel filler that made for the first truly mess-free bottled-ink filling system. Started in Fort Madison, Iowa, the Sheaffer Pen Company today is owned by India's William Penn Company.

Pencil: 5072 Sheaffer GN
Filling Mechanism: Pencil
Era: 1920-1929
Price: $99.99
Pencil: 5072: Sheaffer: GN
One doesn't often find stickered, New Old Stock Sheaffer pencils from the 1920s, but this Sheaffer GN is just that. Its original price sticker is on the flat end of the tail cap. It simply states "GN $4.50." Pull out the tail cap to reveal the hardened eraser and spare 1.1mm leads. The main lead still advances and retracts. The mechanism is a little stiff but still works. Only light wear is on the Green-Gold Filled pencil. Amazing for a museum piece or daily writing. 13cm.
Pencil: 5035 Sheaffer Titan
Filling Mechanism: Pencil
Era: 1920-1929
Price: $99.99
Pencil: 5035: Sheaffer: Titan
The granddaddy of all pencils is here: Sheaffer Titan. This is what we like to call the lemon-lime jade version, as it features bright yellow swirls and flecks in the bright jade green celluloid. Our vintage pencil is in good working order. Twist the gold-filled crown on top to advance or retract the lead. As is the case with most of these, the crown is a bit dented around its edges. There's brassing on the ball and top of the pocket clip. Overall, the pencil looks great. No cracks or deep scratches. It fills with 1.1mm lead. There's a hardened eraser plugging up the space where we can hear spare leads rattling around. 13.2cm.
Pencil: 5012 Sheaffer Sentinel
Filling Mechanism: Pencil
Era: 1950-1959
Price: $49.99
Pencil: 5012: Sheaffer: Sentinel
Matching its pencil lines to its TouchDown-filling fountain pens, this vintage pencil was released as the Sheaffer Sentinel pencil. A two-tone chrome and gold cap contrasts beautifully against a dark green barrel. Minimal wear mars the surfaces of this classic pencil. A twist of the tail cap smoothly advances and retracts the .9mm lead. Cooler still is that this pencil is loaded with a red lead! Remove the cap to reveal a hardened original blue Sheaffer eraser. 12.9cm.
Vintage Pens: 4904 Sheaffer Demonstrator
Filling Mechanism: Lever Filler
Era: 1920-1929   Fountain Pen Nib Size: M
Price: $499.99
Vintage Pens: 4904: Sheaffer: Demonstrator
Sheaffer Demonstrator pens from the 1920s and '30s turn up so rarely, this might be your one chance in a lifetime to get this pen. You can see the cut outs made into the barrel of this rare vintage pen. Sheaffer Dealers and pen reps would have these pens to showcase how a Sheaffer pen works on the inside. You can see this pen has been fully restored with a new ink sac. It is great to see this pen working through the filling and recapping cycles. The trim shows a little brassing, and there is some light wear on this pen. You will write a medium line with its 14k gold Lifetime nib. It has an early 1930s inkfeed.
Pencil: 4834 Sheaffer Imperial
Era: 1960-1979
Price: $75.00
Pencil: 4834: Sheaffer: Imperial
We love the diamond pattern in the solid sterling silver Sheaffer Imperial pencil. It is in great working order. Twist the tail cap to extend and retract the .9mm lead. No dents but a little tarnish. You'll find the clip has the initials "S.R.M." A hardened eraser and spare lead are under the cap. 12.6cm.
Pencil: 4831 Sheaffer Titan
Era: 1920-1929
Price: $69.99
Pencil: 4831: Sheaffer: Titan
Sheaffer Titan pencils were the oversized models. This is a black-and-pearl model that is still showing good color. It works well advancing and retracting the 1.1mm lead. All it takes is a twist of the gold-plated tail cap. Unfortunately, somebody dropped this one years ago. One side of the tail piece is scrunched down a little in a few places. There's a little ding in the nose cone. You also can't miss the engraved name of "E.W. Miller." Spare leads are found under the tail cap. Nevertheless, it still works and writes great! 13.5cm capped.
Pencil: 4727 Sheaffer PFM-IV
Era: 1960-1979
Price: $49.99
Pencil: 4727: Sheaffer: PFM-IV
In the strata of Sheaffer PFM pens and pencils, the Sheaffer PFM-IV was just one grade below the very top of the line. We love the polished chrome cap with gold-plated accents better than the entirely gold-plated caps of the Sheaffer PFM-Vs. This vintage pencil is in great working order. However, it has some light wear from use. No dents or deep scratches but lots of light, shallow scratches. You might also notice a slight gap between the gold cap band and cap. We tried to move it back into position, but it wouldn't budge. You advance and retract the .9mm lead with a twist of the tail cap. Spare leads and an unused but hardened blue eraser can be found under the blind cap. 12.9cm.
Pencil: 0566 Sheaffer 400
Filling Mechanism: Pencil
Era: 1930-1939
Price: $49.99
Pencil: 0566: Sheaffer: 400
Vintage pencils make math and crossword puzzles way more fun. Take this Sheaffer 400 pencil for example. It is an early devotee of the .9mm lead. You advance and retract it with a simple twist of the tail cap. It has some wear from use, but most of us do after 80 years. The worst of it is a few little scratches in the nose cone, which you can see in the photo. The carmine red pattern is one of the rarer color schemes from this era. The clip is on tightly. It no longer has its eraser, but it comes with a spare lead. 13.3cm.
