Sheaffer

William A. Sheaffer founded the Sheaffer Pen Company in 1912. His invention of the lever-filling fountain pen that year revolutionized how fountain pens were filled, and by the 1920s Sheaffer became one of the world's most dominant pen companies. Always innovating filling systems, Sheaffer also created a Vacuum-Fil pen, pneumatic TouchDown filler and pneumatic Snorkel filler that made for the first truly mess-free bottled-ink filling system. Started in Fort Madison, Iowa, the Sheaffer Pen Company today is owned by India's William Penn Company.

Vintage Pens: 5759: Sheaffer: Lifetime
Sheaffer nibs are among of our favorite nibs ever made. This Sheaffer Lifetime Ringtop has a delightfully smooth 14k gold nib. You will write an extra-fine to fine line with great flow. We restored this pen with a new ink sac. There are no cracks, but it has a little brassing on the trim. The lovely jade green has some discoloration, but it looks pretty good over all. A great vintage pen for looks and use. 12cm capped.
Vintage Pens: 5670 Sheaffer Admiral
Filling Mechanism: Lever Filler
Era: 1940-1949   Fountain Pen Nib Size: F
Price: $39.99
Vintage Pens: 5670: Sheaffer: Admiral
Looking for a bargain on a user-grade vintage pen? Check out our Sheaffer Admiral from the 1940s. Its golden brown striated design remains striking after more than 70 years. We restored this vintage pen with a new ink sac. However, there are some serious cosmetic problems. There is a hairline crack in the threads of the barrel, which we believe we have stabilized. A past repairman in the 1950s or '60s used a pair of pliers to open the pen and really mangled the section grip. The rest of the pen is A-OK. You will write a wet-fine (some might say medium) line with its two-tone 14k gold nib. 12.6 cm capped.
Vintage Pens: 5665 Sheaffer Imperial
Filling Mechanism: Cartridge/Converter
Era: 1960-1979   Fountain Pen Nib Size: B
Price: $199.99
Vintage Pens: 5665: Sheaffer: Imperial
Sheaffer Imperial pens remained in production for nearly 40 years. They were one of the last of the great golden era fountain pens released by Sheaffer. We believe this stunning Sheaffer Imperial to be from the mid-1970s. Close to mint condition, this rarer sterling silver model sports a barley corn pattern. You have to look insanely hard under the right light to find a kiss of a dimple in the cap. The rest is pretty surprisingly nice. It comes with its original aerometric style converter, and it also can take Sheaffer cartridges. You will write a nice broad line with its 18k gold inlaid nib. We actually filled this one up and wrote with it all the way dry. The nib is smooth, but it does have some hard starts, which can get annoying. 13.1cm capped.

Vintage Pens: 5655: Sheaffer: Craftsman
The Sheaffer Craftsman fountain pen helped to usher in a new era for the venerable American pen company. World War 2 had just ended. Our service men and women were coming home. Everyone had something to write about, and Sheaffer wanted to provide the latest writing technology to everyone at an affordable price. Enter the Craftsman. A little smaller and more basic in style but very affordable, it also sported the new TouchDown pneumatic filling system. We restored this vintage pen with a new ink sac and O-ring. The cap and barrel show some wear from use, including the graze of a cigarette's smoldering cherry. It actually seems to give the pen a bit more personality and history. You will write a mostly smooth medium line, though the 14k gold nib gives just enough vibration to feel the paper beneath you as you write. 13cm capped.
Vintage Pens: 5651 Sheaffer Balance
Filling Mechanism: Lever Filler
Era: 1930-1939   Fountain Pen Nib Size: F
Price: $99.99
Vintage Pens: 5651: Sheaffer: Balance
No vintage pen collection is complete without at least one Sheaffer Balance. It was the quintessential pen of the 1930s. Streamlined and aerodynamic it modernized the classic Sheaffer look. We restored this mid-sized Balance with a new ink sac. This pen was a work horse then and it remains so today. It's got some wear and some textured pitting to the right and below the lever in the photo. No cracks. A little brassing. If you are observant, you'll have seen that there is no white dot on this pen. Yet, it has a two-tone Lifetime nib made of 14k gold. Click the headline for close-ups. Regardless, you will write a very nice, smooth fine line with the firmness to feel the paper beneath your tip without any scratching. 13.3cm capped.

Era: 1920-1929   Fountain Pen Nib Size: M
Price: $125.00
Vintage Pens: 5633: Sheaffer: Lifetime
Finding really beautiful examples of Sheaffer Lifetimes in jade can be challenging. This one has a darker cap than the photo likely shows it, but it is still a beautiful green that hasn't turned brown. We restored it with a new ink sac. You will write a great smooth medium line with its 14k gold nib. Overall, the pen is in pretty good shape with a touch of brassing and wear. No cracks. 11.8cm capped.
Vintage Pens: 5458 Sheaffer PFM-IV

Vintage Pens: 5458: Sheaffer: PFM-IV
Simultaneously luxurious while also designed for intense daily use. The Sheaffer PFM-IV was the last great pen released while the Sheaffer family still owned the company. Ironically, it wasn't the hit then that it is today. Nevertheless, this vintage pen remains a masterpiece in form and function. Our pen has been fully restored and is ready for more action. Yes, it shows a little light wear and light scratching, but there are no dents or cracks. It is a pretty handsome pen, if we do say so ourselves. You might really love its 14k gold inlaid nib that writes a smooth fine line. 13.6cm capped.
Vintage Pens: 5453 Sheaffer PFM-III
Filling Mechanism: Snorkel
Era: 1960-1979   Fountain Pen Nib Size: F
Price: $649.99
Vintage Pens: 5453: Sheaffer: PFM-III
The rarest among the standard colors of Sheaffer Pen for Men was the grey. Our guess is that the men of the late 1950s and early '60s wanted a pen that contrasted with their grey-flannel suits. Nevertheless, this Sheaffer PFM-III set was quite the luxurious writing instrument of its day. It has been fully restored to great working order. The fountain pen is free of cracks and deep scratches. There is only light wear from use. You will write a very pleasingly smooth fine line with its inlaid 14k gold nib. Its matching vintage pencil is almost new old stock! The remains of a pricing "chalk" mark is still on the barrel. No cracks or scratches. Just light shop wear. Advance and retract the lead with a twist of the tail cap. It comes loaded with a lead but has no spares. Its original blue eraser still feels fresh!
